Quadri da un’esposizione – è una composizione per pianoforte di Modest Musorgskij, ispirata ad alcuni quadri del suo amico pittore Viktor Hartmann. Un importante arrangiamento per orchestra è stato poi fatto nel secolo scorso dal compositore francese Maurice Ravel ed è anch’esso diventato molto famoso.
STEP 1
Presento l’opera musicale ai ragazzi. Spiego che questa volta faremo insieme sia l’arte, che musica.
Spiego e scriviamo sul quaderno:
Pictures at an Exhibition is a famous music for solo piano, composed by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky in 1874. It is a musical description of an exhibition of pictures. The pictures were painted by Viktor Hartmann. Hartmann was only 39 when he died. He and Mussorgsky were good friends so Mussorgsky was very sad. Some friends organized an exhibition of Hartmann’s pictures. Many many years after Mussorgsky’s death a French composer Maurice Ravel composed an arrangement of the music for orchestra. This arrangement is also very famous. Today we usually listen to this arrangement.

STEP 2
Procediamo quindi a descrivere meglio i dipinti e ad ascoltare i brani.
Pictures at an Exhibition describes a person walking round the exhibition and looking at the pictures. The pictures are ten and they are drawings and watercolours. Some of the pictures went lost in the past but some we can still admire today.
The first part of the music describes a person walking from one picture to another. This part is called the “promenade” (a promenade means a walk).
Ora mi apro la pagina su kidzsearch indicata sopra. Non serve farla vedere sulla Lim, ma comunque potete anche farlo.
Spiego ogni tema musicale e lo ascoltiamo. Inizio con la “promenade”. (La ascolteremo successivamente anche tra un dipinto e l’altro, simulando appunto la nostra passeggiata alla mostra.)
Prima di ogni ascolto scriviamo una breve descrizione sul quaderno.
The Promenade describes a person walking round the exhibition.
1. “Gnomus” : describes a little gnome running around.
2. “The Old Castle” describes an old medieval castle. A troubadour is singing a song in front of the castle. (saxophone).
3. “Tuileries” describes children playing in a park in the centre of Paris.
4. “Bydło” describes a cart which pulled by oxen. (tuba)
5. “The Ballet of the Chicks” describes little chicks which are still in their eggs.
6. “Two Jews” describes two men. One is rich and one is poor.
7. “The Market at Limoges” describes people in the market. Limoges is a city in central France.
8. “The Catacombs” describes the dark Paris catacombs.
9. “The Hut on Hen’s Legs” is about a picture of a clock in the form of Baba-Yaga’s hut on hen’s legs.
10. “The Great Gate of Kiev” describes a drawing of a huge gate in the Russian city of Kiev.
STEP 3
Faccio vedere ai ragazzi i dipinti alle quali sono ispirate le musiche (sempre dal sito sopra). Spiego che alcuni quadri purtroppo sono andati persi. Quindi ci si offre una bellissima occasione per dipingerne noi uno a scelta (The Old Castle ad esempio), con gli acquarelli, ascoltando ovviamente la musica che dovrebbe ispirare l’atmosfera del nostro dipinto 🙂 .
